Stamp price history 1863 - 1971
- March 3, 1863 - 2¢ stamp featuring Andrew Jackson ("Black Jack") is issued. However because of American Civil War price is quickly increased to 3 cents
- March 3, 1883 - Stamps cost 2¢ again
- November 3, 1917 - Postage is again 3¢ because of World War I
- July 1, 1917 - Back to pre-war price of 2¢ again by decision of the US Congress
- July 6, 1932 - Stamps now cost 3¢
- August 1, 1958 - Stamps price increases to 4¢
- January 7, 1963 - Yet another increase to 5¢
- January 7, 1968 - 6 cents...
- May 16, 1971 - 8 cents...

- March 2, 1974 - 10 cents... And we're in double digits from this point on
- September 14, 1975 - 10 cents...
- December 31, 1975 - 13 cents...
- May 29, 1978 - 15 cents...
- March 22, 1981 - 18 cents...
- November 1, 1981 - 20 cents...
- February 17, 1985 - 22 cents...
