How to Apply For the SNAP Food Stamp Program
By Jared Lee

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP, replaced the federal food stamp program on October 1, 2008. The process of knowing whether you are eligible to receive food stamps has been made easy by the SNAP food stamp program.

Food Stamps Application

First you must visit the online food stamp site, and fill in your details like your place of residence, the size of your family, your income, asset details like how much you have in your checking accounts and savings, your retirement savings plans, any other assets, and similar questions. The answers to these questions will determine whether you are eligible for the SNAP food stamps program or not.

The next step after you have qualified is filling up the application for SNAP food stamps. You can collect these application forms from the SNAP office in your area, and if that is not an option, ask a friend to collect the forms on your behalf and send them to you. There are a few states where SNAP food stamp applications can be made online too. If you are not sure about the location of the SNAP food stamp office that is closest to you, there is the toll free SNAP hotline that you may call to get the required information. The toll free number is 1-800-221-5689.

Once you are at the SNAP office and have filled up the application form, the next step is to hand it over to the SNAP worker, following which you will have to appear for a personal interview. The interviews are fixed beforehand, so be there on time with all the relevant documents.
