Stamp Philatelic - Chinese Zodiac Stamp The Chinese lunar calendar has a sixty year cycle. According to the Chinese horoscope, The 60-year cycle consists of two separate cycles combining with each other. The first is the cycle of ten heavenly stems, namely the Five Elements which make up all matter (in order Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water) in their ip Yin and Yang forms. The second is the cycle of the twelve Zodiac animal signs or Earthly Branches . They are in order as follows: the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. The current cycle began in the year 1984. Chinese ancestors believed that a person’s destiny can be determined by the position of the major planets at the person’s birth along with the positions of the Sun, Moon and comets and the person’s time of birth and Zodiac Sign. So the Zodiac Sign animal is believed to be the main factor of each person. Stamp Philatelic - Chinese Zodiac Stamp

US Postage Stamp

Image
US Postage Stamp In 1902, 65 years after Queen Victoria appeared on an English postage stamp, and 55 years after the first US postage stamp was issued, the 8-cent Martha Washington was the first US stamp to feature a woman. The year before, the Post Office Department had enjoyed a successful run of the commemorative Pan-American Exposition stamps. But, at more than a decade old, all its regular-issue designs were becoming a bit dated. In an attempt to jazz up its offerings, the Postal Department commissioned new stamps for 1902, giving artists and engravers free rein to show off their intricate handiwork. Mrs. Washington's stamp was introduced at a time when Americans began recognizing the importance of women's contributions to society. Although women had not yet earned the right to vote, the suffrage movement was a major topic of conversation. Legend has it that after much squabbling over which prominent woman should be the first to grace a US stamp, Mrs. Washington -- the fir...

Stamps In Sri Lanka This is a list of people on the postage stamps of Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon. The list is complete through 1980. You should also be able to find them in antique shops in Sri Lanka, although it is unlikely you'll discover mint stock from the 1920s. Some might turn up in the libraries of tea plantation bungalows, forgotten by the many occupants over the years. A modern source, of course, are Internet sites. Stamps In Sri Lanka

Stamps Usa Love it or loathe it, stamp collecting has been around for a long time, and is here to stay. Nevertheless, it captivates people in all walks of life, and from all age groups. Even with fax machines and e-mails, many items are still being sent by conventional post. It would seem that the earliest reference to collecting stamps was in England in 1841, the year after they were first issued. People have different reasons for collecting stamps. Some find it relieves stress. Others like the educational side of it. Prospects of financial gain motivate still others. Prior to postal service, people forwarded messages and letters via trusted travelers. By the sixteenth century an international postal service operated among a number of European states. Stamps Usa

Stamps Of Kuwait Postage stamps and postal history of Kuwait From: Wikipedia The postal history of Kuwait begins around 1775, when the East India Company began an overland desert camel service from the head of the Persian Gulf to Aleppo and Constantinople, as an alternative to slower sea travel around the Arabian Peninsula. This operated until 1795. After the treaty with the British in 1899, the consul's office handled mail, using stamps sent from Bushire, and forwarding mail to Bushire or putting it on passing ships. The first dedicated post office opened 21 January 1915, and used stamps of India. From 1 August 1921 to April 1941 the office was administered from nearby Basra in Iraq. On 1 April 1923, India stamp were issued with "KUWAIT" overprints; this practice continued for many years. In 1941 the post office was temporarily closed for about a month because of the Anglo-French invasion of Iraq (during which time mail was carried by diplomatic bag through Lond...
